Hey guys, I'm taking my Depth Perception test tomorrow AGAIN for the 3rd time. I failed it at MEPS completely, and re-took it at the base about a month ago, missed a few, but the ones I did miss were the No, no ones I guess.
I went to a regular eye doctor and took a Stereopsis depth perception test there and passed it with flying colors. Hell I even go the ones many people miss. So I got me a note to take with me tomorrow.
Anyone else have a problem with this? Anyway, wish me luck!

Depth perception was supposed to have been dropped as a requirement for SOWT as it was for CCT.

The word must not be getting out. Let me know how the test goes but it should not be a discriminator either way.

Bryan-

Just go through the motions. Let it be known to your recruiter as well as the Optometry folks that there is a change for the depth perception requirement for SOWT. Just because they do not have it in writing in front of them doesn't mean that they shouldn't up-channel through their chain of command to verify what you are saying. Your best bet (in my opinion) is to tell your recruiter that the SOWT career field functional manager has made it clear that the requirement is now non-existent. Me being medical, I know how slow new guidance can take to filter down from the top. It isn't due to incompetence....it is just a HUGE community. Be patient. I am going through some issues with my physical right now and the reality is one must be patient. So, long story short a supplement to the medical standards AFI should be coming soon (AFI 48-123). I am curious to see if AETC will set a drop dead date for the requirement and grandfather those who do not meet the depth perception standard....one can only hope for that.

Not sure where you got the information that the red lens test was required for SOWT. There is, to my knowledge, no red lens standard for FCIII (Class III flight physicals). I can check the updated AFI if you had an issue with it.

Thank you guys for the quick response, I will notify my recruiter on the change and have him do some research so they can stop breaking my balls over such a weird test.
I will let you know HD asap on any problems.

I'll keep you guys posted. Thanx

Good job man. I forgot to mention this to you but perhaps it will benefit others out there (at least until the depth perception requirement becomes obsolete). There is computer software that military Optometrists have that can help you strengthen your depth perception. I do not remember the name of it. I briefly discussed it with the doc some time ago and he offered to let me come in when I had time to try it out. It is not guaranteed to work on everyone and it is not guaranteed to work in a specific time frame either. He said it could take 2 weeks or 2 months or longer before results are noticed. This software basically trains your brain to work better with your eyes to fine-tune your depth perception abilities. It may be worth folks checking out. To be honest with you I never used it so I can't say either way. I imagine that the equivalent is out there in the civilian world. If anyone wants more info on it, please let me know and I will find out what it's called.

Thanx man! Yeah I'm excited about passing that thing. Now I just have to wait for a date to get sworn in. Good times.
BTW, yeah let me know what that software is called.

Since when did CCT drop their requirement on depth perception? I thought it was still 20/70 for uncorrected. I know both must be correctable to 20/20.
