We did a pull up workouts twice a week. I saw a lot of people make good gains. But the bars were far away from our dorms, so we never got permission to use them. I actually asked my T.I. if we could use the gym the ti's used and he said yes, but it never went down because our flight had a bunch of idiots and kept getting in trouble.

Just stay focused.

To be honest with you, the weather course (for me) was much tougher than going through basic. Not as far as pt, but mentally it was tough.

Good luck. Look me up on here if you need anything

RE: Last night at home

KP duty is about the only way you are going to eat a good meal. Take water monitory or general duties when you do it and avoid the junk food.

After the first 2 weeks you will start having time to yourself at night when you should do PT. Getting to do pullups will be difficult. You will start getting free time later on in the pipeline during the day so ask your TI if you and a "wingman" can go to the pullup bars. I don't ever remember doing pullups when I went to BMT except for the Liberator/thunderbolt/warhawk test. Take the PT sessions serious, especially the running. I went from never running over a mile in my life to running a 9:18 1.5 mile at the end of BMT. If you are not a distance runner like I wasn't and don't know how to pace yourself, find out who runs sub 9 minute 1.5 miles, and chase them.

The food at the Keesler DFACs was awesome...even just after Katrina.

RE: Last night at home

You'll get time to PT on your own in the evenings, but it'll be hard to maintain strength with the lack of food. Hell, I would daydream all the time during class about eating. You only do get 2-3 minutes per meal. Chicken is dry there so it takes longer to chew and swallow. Fish, peanut butter dipped in yogurt, and plain bread all are easy and fast to take down. Bug your element leaders about asking your MTIs if your flight can use the pull up bars before chow. Follow all orders from your element leaders because the can write you up that will cause your instructors to get pissed at you. Go to contemporary church service on Sunday even if you aren't religious. You'll need the time away from the dorm. Once you graduate you'll go to the medina annex until you go to keesler. It's awesome here, you get lots of time to eat with weekends off (most the time).

Thanks ca180

RE: Last night at home

PT at basic was counter productive in my opinion. You can PT all you want in your free time as long as you get done what you're supposed to. Don't let it get in the way of graduating though, then your work will be pointless. Anyways, it's tough to maintain muscle there. At least it was for me. We never got more than 2 or 3 minutes per meal. No lie. Except maybe 7th week. Try and focus on high protein items when your shuffling through the line. And like I said before, you'll have plenty of time to PT. Once you make it to Keesler life will be better. You can eat real meals. And the food there is awesome. The Live Oak DFAC got rated best in the Air Force.

Anyhow, good luck and welcome to the AF.

RE: SOWT in books?

I found a free e-book link for Deadly Blue: Battle Stories of the US Special Operations Command.

http://www.ebook3000.com/Deadly-Blue--Battle-Stories-of-the-U-S--Air-Force-Special-Operations-Command_71899.html

the Rapidshare link worked for me. Gives it to you in PDF format. The second chapter of the book is devoted to SOWT.

RE: Last night at home

What did you do to stay in your best shape during BMT? Is it just up to you to get in extra PT whenever you can? I'm assuming BMT PT is not even a challenge for someone prepared for the pipeline.

RE: Last night at home

I graduated BMT last Friday. The results were:

2x20m underwaters - pass
500m swim - 10:10 pass
1.5m run - 10:24 pass
pullups - 15 pass
situps - 65 pass
pushups - 65 pass

I'm in DEP and got matched up with Weather 1W0X1 shipping December 14th, 2010, but we're working on getting that changed to SOWT 1W0X2. I think the only way of going about this is for me is to wait for the job requirement directory to be updated in Fall, then I can go to MEPS again and get a SOWT GTEP.

HK 416 vs Colt M4

I'm just curious what people think about the HK 416 vs Colt M4. According to a survey on behalf of the Army by CNA Corp, a large number of soldiers dislike the M4 and 19% had jams during a firefight due to sand.

I also found this video which performs a few tests of the HK416 and M4 when it is submerged under water. The HK416 performs beautifully, firing when even underneath the water. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGwkHktkTxU&feature=related)

I hear Air Force Special Tactics have some of the best gear around. I've also seen some pictures where it appears SOF's are equipped with HK416s. Is the HK416 a standard weapon for an operator like SOWT?
